My journey in dogs started in the early 1970s when I moved from Germany to South Africa. A German
Shepherd Dog and Great Danes at first, then Irish Wolfhounds joined the family.
In the year 2000, two American Staffordshire Terriers were added to the pack,
quite a challenge… but also a breath of fresh air. Since 2014 two medium sized
mixed breeds have taken over our lives.
I began to judge in the mid 1980s, and I am now a senior
international judge for 4 groups (Gundogs, Herding, Hounds, Working). I have
judged in America, Canada, Croatia, Russia, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Namibia, Zambia,
as well as in South Africa of course.
Although I have neither owned nor bred Rhodesian Ridgebacks, I have judged the breed all over the world. I think for the purpose of writing this book, not being a breeder is actually an advantage, since my vision of the breed is not clouded by loyalties to certain bloodlines or by dislikes of certain competitors.
