Book review by Rolf Blessing. Dog breeder, judge, author
Translated by Timmy
U. Ralfe
I have read many dog
books about many breeds, written in different languages (the first one was
Beardie Basic in 1978). I own a lot of them, but I have never read a book like
RIDGEBACK RELEVANT before, and to my mind it is something very special.
The photographs -
some taken from rather unusual perspectives - are clear and without any frills,
and thus explain each point vividly and easy to understand. In their simplicity they show precisely what
is often ignored or simply missed.
Open, not mincing her
words, (I have met the author personally, and know her to say what she thinks,
too) she points the reader to things which are important in the breed, which
are sometimes overlooked or not really talked about by many.
Whether its questions
around acquiring a Ridgeback, or the way in which the author „takes the Breed
Standard apart“ in order to explain it in an understandable manner, and in the
process conveys the basics of „Cynology 101“, or the way in which she
introduces you to the world of dog shows – this book is written competently and
easy to comprehend.
The explanations in
this book will give the reader a comprehensive picture of this unique breed as
well as provide a good overview on the very complex subjects of cynology and
dog shows.
